Form & Function: Vessels is a full-day, skill-building workshop for intermediate to advanced potters, focused on soft-slab hand-building techniques for creating functional ceramic forms. Led by Toronto-area ceramic artist Heather Dynes Smit, this intensive invites participants to explore how sculptural form, function, and simplicity can exist within contemporary, everyday objects.
Heather is known for her delicately constructed soft-slab vessels that balance utility and sculptural presence. Through demonstration and guided making, participants will learn her methods for creating drinking, pouring, and storage vessels.
Throughout the day, discussion will cover form and function, template making, making in multiples, and safe studio practices. Skills learned in this workshop are easily transferable to participants’ own projects and studio work.
